It is with great sadness and regret that Crystal Palace Primary School is to announce that the Department for Education (DFE) has been unable to secure permanent premises in time for a September 2015 opening, and as a result the school has no alternative but to defer until 2016.
Since the results of the Greater London Authority’s (GLA) statutory consultation, it has become increasingly apparent that the preferred location for the school at Crystal Palace Park will face strong opposition. CPPS have worked tirelessly with the Education Funding Authority (EFA) to identify alternative locations in the area. Although the EFA have been able to ascertain possible sites - some of which fall outside our Admissions Zone - they have not yet been able to secure an agreement for a permanent location that would enable the school to open in September 2015; it is for this reason only that we are unable to proceed to open later this year. We had always anticipated the school would initially open in a temporary location. However, due to a change in DFE/EFA policy, free schools are no longer permitted to open in temporary locations unless a permanent location has been secured.
The support from the Crystal Palace community for this project has been over whelming and the decision to delay the opening will be extremely disappointing for all the families who have made an application for a school place in September 2015. It is a small comfort to CPPS to know that all the children will all be offered a place through the PAN London admissions process in April and we wish them every success at their new school.
Crystal Palace Primary School remains hopeful that a location will be secured and that we will open a school in September 2016 that aims to provide the outstanding provision the families of Crystal Palace deserve. The trust will continue to work closely with the EFA to enable this to happen. For further information, please refer to the Deferral Information in our News section.
CPPS is driven by a vision of local parents and teachers of a school for the community. The ideas for the school developed directly in response to many parents, who expressed concerns about the acute lack of primary school places in the local area.
We will ensure that our local children get the best start in life. At the heart of the school is the idea that nurturing 'character' is crucial in ensuring future success and happiness for children. The uniqueness of Crystal Palace will be reflected in this school.
